I found the same thing. I'm recently returned to writing after many years and at first, I was using ChatGPT as an editor. But despite my instructions it kept suggesting revisions, which I sometimes used because I was unsure of my own voice. However, I ultimately found it eroded my sense of accomplishment and pride in my own work, so I stopped. I now use Claude, which obeys my strict instructions not to provide any rewrites and simply advises on readability and flow and obvious mistakes.
The thing I've noticed is that it's too easy to assume that A.I. knows better because it appears as this omniscient thing. Something that broke that illusion was putting the same piece of writing into two A.I.s and seeing what they picked up - and also copying the suggestions of one into the other for an opinion. In fact, they often disagree. So why not just do my own thing regardless?
AI has a very useful role, but it needs to be used as a tool where we retain our own sovereignty, both of knowledge and of voice. For me, I figure out what I'm thinking as I write, so it's important that the words are mine.

I don’t just use it to blindly edit usually, the last few months have just been really difficult and I just found that it was a lot easier to just put it into AI and copy and paste it back.
But I trust following my guidelines too much. Now, going through my work, I’m almost sickened by the removal of my voice. It’s still my story, it’s still my characters. But it’s a big deal that it’s not faithful to my voice.

I've noticed that sanitizing effect as well. It seemed to want to change my writing so that it's expressed in as inoffensive a way as possible. This means it ends up circumscribing what I say in a very bland way. Not that I'm actually even writing anything offensive. It's just an overall filter or cadence that it seems to run things through before returning them.
The good news is that this means there's even more room for unique voices out there. We just need to trust that what we have to say and how we say it is worthy. And it's worthy simply because we are human beings and sovereign. Our perspective is already valid before we even put a pen to the page or start typing.
Just trust yourself. You express yourself beautifully. And even if you didnt and even if there are awkward moments, that's partly what being human is all about.
